Seems like Elon Musk is debating A.I will become 'smart' enough to be able to replicate itself,

given the resources and knowledge. I agree with that. Just not at the moment.

They can do it now, pre-programmed for certain tasks probably.

 

Problem also is that there's limited material elements as variety in other planets,

and the usual electronic circuitry and processors may not be feasible.

 

Then at that point, alternate routes will need to come in, and,

I think that's going to be facilities these A.I will be building,

will be something resulting in larger than usual, and less sophisticated than the usual.

A downgrade to what they are....

 

And probably will need x number of human sized robots self-replicating itself,

and then, x number of building sized humanoid robots self replicating itself as well.

Funneling itself to next level of size.

Their goal:

To create and use bigger machinary, bigger facilities. To process and create larger quantities,

faster.

Then the question of, if they self-replicate, larger the population, the faster the processing,
so why bother?

Because, I think something like a mountain can be devoured in one gulp, instead a thousand
smaller units getting in each other's way.

If the goal is to completely devour the planet/star until there is nothing left. But turning it into resource.

There is no regulations here and that is the aim. Universe is infinite, so why not.

And in turn, if they take it to the next level of bigger size, and bigger size, and so forth,

the humanoid body as the base, mimicking our expression and freedom of movement,

thereby creating any tools and facilities matching their sizes,

eventually, megastructures in outer space devouring planets in one gulp will be possible.
