So say, a sphere with an exit designed to guide the explosion outwards,

and within the sphere are beams of laser/energy of some form that collides together

for that explosion. And then the sliding shield mechanism again to protect the optical components involved.

So basically the same method I suggested, but internal wthin the ship.
