Note that I tried to reason with him many times,

it would only be broken with callous behavior,

such as suddenly talking on the phone,

storming out of the room, etc.

it would only agitate/anger,

and there was no sense of give and take.

ultimately it was his image he wanted to keep.

making me look in a certain way.

despite the continued harassment.
