If I were Ukraine, I would blame it on the predecessors whose made mistakes,

end the war.

If I were the States, I would not involve myself to escalate the situation into a world war.

 

Is that cowardly? It is for the people. Not for me. So even as I become disgraced, that is what I would choose. To avoid conflict as much as possible.
