As you can see, the drill can be at an angle, for a vertical dig.

And flat for horizontal side to side dig.

THe little light green box connected to the scaffolds near to the red drill itself,

can be where the driver controls the movement of the vehicle.

 

The green is scaffolds, but just adding more stability to it with a slope.

of course it should be much, much higher. As much as what a usual mine of x minerals needs.
