The tunnel drill won't work as the water will creep in even if you seal it from the outside, it will still depend on the powerline unless it is nuclear power or something like that. XD

 

however. it can be used for...

 

excavation into deeper depths, to measure out the abundance of certain minerals.

of which then, once verified,

 

the bucket-lid drill, can begin extracting itself from the surface.

 

and assuming the tunnel drill works much faster in loosening up the soil beneath the surface levels,

it can traverse undergound however ways in preparation of the bucket-lid drilling.

 

so basically, the bucket-lid drill just needs to scoop, and occasionally need the embedded drill to crack and hard surfaces.
