Not that i'm advocating for any weapons systems now,
but on Mr Degrasse Tyson's statement on:
"There's nothing more useless than a space weapon,
relative to the earth's surface."
I may have to disagree with that.
Within the planet, there are radars. So you know what is coming ahead of you.
And then there are anti-missile systems, which has far more chances to retaliate
as the distance is horizontal.
And then there are factors of reaching destination without glitch. Top to bottom,
despite unknowing as to Earth's rotation at the time in alignment to the place where weapon is held,
it is actually more predictable I think... Less chances of error, provided the heat once hitting the atmosphere can be overcome. Launch would be after the alignment from nearest approximation of that top to bottom so... Distance is much shorter and unpredictable from the enemy's side...
But that's my speculation...
Just saying so as argument's sake.
