When you push the inner core out,

 

then there is a chance that, it resulted in fire,

 

or explosion of some kind...

 

 

Then maybe a auto fire extinguisher + sliding mechanism can be useful.

 

If to rid the plane from instability of friction with the air,

 

if it has irregular holes in it, it's better off sliding into sides

of the plane as cylinders,

 

and leaving that space open or. Adding another layer on top of the

 

broken one.... Maybe that is thinking too far ahead...
