The question is.

 

Will the horizontal drill, as it travels across the dirt below the ship.

 

Will it be affected by the weight of the ship,

 

or will the areas dugged out simply be replaced with the weight of

the ship pressing, so the drill is unaffected, it just continues.

 

And repeat cycle.

 

Most likely yes....

 

One can test that theory out with small scale model.
